This article is focused toward the install for a 1st
gen. B16a. I won't go into the details of removing/installing each
component as I assume you have some experience in this dept. or
have a manual beside you. For details and pics of the differences
between these two intake manifolds click
here.
Here are the parts needed along with the Type R intake
manifold:
- Fuel rail (From a B18c or 2nd gen. B16a. If you plan to use an
aftermarket fuel rail you will have to sort out fittings to connect
to the fuel filter. I sourced EARLs for my fittings).
- Idle air control valve (IACV) from any of these vehicles (92+
Integra (any model) / 92+ Civic Si/SiR / 97-98 CRV)
- Integra Type R throttle cable bracket part no.16411-P73-000

Parts I recommend getting (not mandatory):
- 62mm throttle body
- Throttle body gasket part no. 16176-P73-004
- PCV valve part no. 17130-PM6-003

A service manual with engine overhauling procedures
would come in handy as well. Helms manual for DA Integra (NZ IPs
only): dsn.infometrics.co.nz/meets/helms
First off start removing the components around the
intake manifold:
- Intake.
- Throttle body, TPS electrical connector and throttle cable.
- Fuel rail, injectors and harnesses. To remove fuel injector harnesses,
pry out the clips holding down the harness with a pair of thin nose
pliers.
- Fuel fittings. To remove the pluse dampner on the fuel rail, leave
the fuel rail on the intake manifold and use a spanner to unscrew
the dampner.
- Remove vacuum hoses and coolant lines on cylinder head and intake
manifold. Be prepared with lots of rags and a container. Take note
of where each hose goes so you won't forget when it comes to assembling
it back.
- Remove intake manifold. There are 10 bolts holding the intake
manifold. You may have to go underneath the car to reach a couple
of bolts. Remove the 2 bolts holding the intake manifold onto the
rear bracket. Pull the hose out from the PCV valve to the catch
can and slowly slide the intake manifold off. Becareful not to break
the knock sensor - located just below the intake manifold.
Carry over and install these components to the CTR
intake manifold:
- T/A sensor
- New IACV
- Fuel rail and fuel injectors
- Fuel pressure regulator
- PCV valve and bottom hose
- Type R throttle cable bracket
- Throttle body
Should look something like this.
You'll notice on the CTR intake manifold, there is no accomodation
for the FITV. This can be done by re-routing some of the coolant
lines. Click here for
more details.
Once the coolant lines are sorted, carefully slide
the newly assembled CTR intake manifold back into position.
- Connect the fuel fittings and remaining coolant lines.
- Torque the intake manifold bolts into place, don't forget the
2 bolts on the rear bracket.
The rest is the reverse of removal of intake manifold
components. Before getting to keen too turn the key, check for coolant
leaks and make sure all vacuum hoses are connected correctly. Remember
to replace some coolant in the reservoir and reset the ECU. Your
new setup should look something like this.
Now go drive your car and email
me your impressions of the R manifold upgrade!
